Café Oz — Chatelet

Café Oz is an Australian- themed bar in the First Arrondissement of Paris next to the Châtelet metro stop. Now, when I say Australian please understand I am not sending you to the outback  in Paris. This place is a happening night spot with a very diverse crowd.  Definitely a scene for the under 30, they always have delectable drink specials available for around 5€, and they feature a different beer every week for around 4€-5€.

Café Oz does charge a 10€ cover on Saturday nights but you get a ticket for a drink of your choice after paying the entrance fee. So, don’t think of it as a cover, think of it as a discount on your bar tab.

Oz is very popular and can get crowded, but this is because  it has a lively atmosphere. Dancing is ongoing – due, of  course, to the talented DJ that reigns supreme from above the main bar area.

One of my favorite reasons for going is to meet people from all over the globe.  The last time I was there my friends and I spent the evening with a great group of people from Holland. One, an expat Parisian resident like myself, was a regular, and had decided to bring along his friends to show them what he considered one of Paris’s best bars. Given his friends’ mood, it seemed he had made the right choice.

It doesn’t matter what country you are from – Café Oz welcomes all nationalities with open arms. So, for a night of Aussie hospitality, mingling with an international crowd, and dancing the night away in Paris – you can’t beat Oz!

Happy hour is daily from 17h-20h. Oz is opened from Sunday to Wednesday from 17h to 3h, Thursdays 17h to 4h, Fridays 17h to 6h, and Saturdays 13h – 6h. They have several locations throughout the city, but Châtelet is my personal favorite. They will also reserve a space for you and your friends if you want to celebrate a special occasion there – just call ahead of time.
