Grand Palais Monet Exhibition

The Grand Palais, a majestic exhibition building near the Champs-Elysees, holds a special exhibition of Monet paintings until January 24, 2011. The exhibit demonstrates Monet as a complex painter of emotion, as well as an outdoor painter of beauty. A few of the artworks were sold directly to collectors by Monet and have never been shown in France before until now.

This is the largest amassed exhibition of the artist’s work since a major Parisian retrospective in 1980. Approximately 200 canvases and drawings by Monet are on display, a third of which came from the Musee d’Orsay’s permanent collection, including the spectacular Rouen Cathedral series (1892-1893) and the popular Poppies Blooming (1873). The remainder are on loan from numerous art museums and private collections overseas, including those in America, Russia and Japan.

The exhibition occurs at the same time the Musee Marmottan displays a special exhibition of Monet paintings beyond the artworks housed at this special museum in the 16th Arrondissement near Jardin du Ranelagh.

Start Date: 2010-10-21
