Ellen Von Unwerth Exhibition – Le Bon Marché

IMG_3273.JPGThe venerable haute couture shopping store, Le Bon Marché, just off of the très chic Rue du Bac in the 7th arrondissement, is celebrating the 63rd annual Cannes Film Festival by hosting “Cinema”, an exhibition of photographer and filmmaker Ellen Von Unwerth’s portraits of the most glamorous stars of Hollywood and France. The exhibit showcases a “Who’s Who” of cinema’s hottest stars, including Brad Pitt, Selma Hayek, Elizabeth Hurley, Monica Bellucci, Sophia Marceau, Penelope Cruz, Madonna, Parker Posey, Mickey Rourke, and Winona Ryder, just to name a few. The photos exude pure sexiness of cinema’s sexiest stars.

Von Unwerth, herself a former fashion model, has been photographing celebrities and models since the early 1990s. Von Unwerth’s Hollywood portraits evoke the true personality of the stars she shoots. A Parker Posey shot brings out the various characters she has portrayed in Dazed and Confused and You’ve Got Mail. A shot of Elizabeth Hurley, in just a slim sequin blouse in a bare kitchen, highlights the pure silky allure of this star.  Another shot of Brad Pitt, in a barbershop in India, sitting in a worn chair, casts a cool but warm look that will instantly cause any woman to lock eyes on the star and not the setting around him.

The photos chronicle Von Unwerth’s relationship with the celebrities from the early 1990s up until the more contemporary shots of this decade. The exhibition is a perfect venue while visiting Le Bon Marché during a shopping respite, and it is on the same floor of the newly opened Miyou restaurant by famed chef, Guy Martin, of Le Grand Véfour.
