La Terrasse de Pomone

The weather is beautiful in Paris at the moment. Walking in the crowded streets, filled with sightseers desperately seeking their share of the sun, can be a little stifling at times, so I went in search of something a bit different. And I found it. The Terrasse de Pomone inside the Jardin des Tuileries is awake again and full of people following the long winter months. And just in time. People in search of a little light refreshment, be it the obligatory café or even a glass of champagne, flock to this oasis. And there couldn’t be a better one: the blossom on the trees is blooming, the birds are busy singing, and children are excitedly playing. The gardens are buzzing, and this liveliness is welcome after the silent weeks among the bare trees.

The views are spectacular with the Louvre on one side and rue de Rivoli on the other. You can marvel at the stunning architecture, scenery, statues and greenery for the price of a chocolat froid, and soak up this excitingly Parisian atmosphere at the same time.

There are few such open spaces so central in Paris, and this one is beautiful. The café has been perfectly situated next to some ponds of the garden, making for a cool and pleasant spot, great for duck-spotting. After an hour or so of sitting there, armed with an ice-cream, chatting to the friendly waiters who flit as quickly as the sparrows, you will undoubtedly feel rejuvenated. And the café is open until just before 9pm, when the park closes, meaning that at this time of year, you can still wait until it just gets dark to see the Eiffel Tower glittering over the tree tops.
