Kiliwatch

A playground of vintage boutiques, Paris is filled to the brim with retro-inspired shopping adventures. While one could easily pay 300 € for a 1950s evening gown or 1500 € for a vintage Chanel creation, you can still find hidden gems with price ranges that will not leave you with the sour aftertaste of shopping-inspired guilt.

Kiliwatch is one of these jewels. Although well-known among young Parisian fashionistas and international students, the store window is quite unassuming. The store, however, is not. Located at the heart of the 2nd arrondissement, Kiliwatch is a vast jungle of brightly colored dresses, well-loved leather jackets, groovy Italian leather boots, stripped Brittany sailor shirts, and handbags galore. The store has a heyday of being the place to find it all and, despite the fact that the store has become more commercialized, you can still find great vintage buys.

The boutique is roughly divided into three sections: the front for the ladies, the back for the gents, and an awkward, middle ground of new, trendy labels if you’re looking for a “never-been-worn†piece. To be honest though, you’re more likely to find that special item of clothing in the vintage sections, and with the amount of clothing in the store, you’re better off spending your time flicking through the retro racks.

Of course, like all vintage boutiques, the search is one of the highlights of the adventure. Due to its enormous size, Kiliwatch could be a potentially overwhelming experience.  On the other hand, you’ll be as ecstatic as a child in a candy shop: shoes usually sell for approximately 30 to 50 €, bags are anywhere from 10 to 40 €, and most articles of clothing are around 25 to 30€.  An objective is always helpful, but exploration is part of the treasure hunt. Bonne chance and have fun!
